Some of my Mac user clients enjoy very much of playing games on their favorite Apple Mac computers. However, I must say the selection of the games can be played on Mac are very limited comparing with those ones for Game PC. This is mainly because upgrading internal units of Mac computers is very limited to suit playing recent very big resource hungry games. Today’s topic is those big games and Gamepad controller for Apple Mac computers.

Most common Gamepad for Mac computers is appeared to be Steel Series GamePad.
It works with Bluetooth connection only. But as far as I tested, right hand side X, Y,A,B buttons do not work at all for some big games. It’s a shame because the unit itself is quite expensive.
Much better alternative is to use Xbox controller for Windows. Thanks to github.com, you can download the driver for Apple Mac computers from the following link.
It’s a Xbox 360 Controller driver, but it works perfect for Xbox Controller and constantly updated.
I tested Xbox controller using Bluetooth connection with iMac 27 inch. (Core i7, 4GB memory GPU – Operating System 10.14 Mojave) for the following game. It runs quite OK without any crash.
Rise of the Tomb Raider which you can purchase from Mac App Store.
Reviews for the game on Mac App Store are not good at all. I would believe those bad reviews are based on the nature of resource hungry game itself and most likely users machine spec would not meet the minimum requirement to play the game. It requires macOS 10.13.4 (High Sierra) minimum. It does not say minimum requirement of Apple Mac computer resource, however, I would say Core i5 + 1 or 2GB Graphic card memory will struggle to play this game. In nutshell, Mac computers are not best suited for heavy resource hungry games. Best to buy Game Specialised Unit (such as Xbox, Playstation 4 etc.) if you would like to play stress free games.
