I. Introduction

macOS Ventura (version 13) is the nineteenth major release of macOS, Apple’s desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. The successor to macOS Monterey, it was announced at WWDC 2022 (Word Wide Developer Conference for the first time on a fully supported online platform) on 6th June, 2022. It is named after the city Ventura in California, following the home state naming system that started with OS X Mavericks.

The first developer version was released on June 6, 2022, while the public beta is expected to become available in July. The final release is expected in late 2022.

II. Which Mac runs Ventura?

macOS Ventura supports Macs with Apple silicon or Intel’s 7th generation Kaby Lake chips or later, and brutally drops support for the various models released from 2015 to 2017. Ventura supports the following Mac models:

iMac (2017) and later
iMac Pro
MacBook (2017)
MacBook Air (2018) and later
MacBook Pro (2017) and later
Mac Pro (2019)
Mac Studio
Mac Mini (2018) and later

(Much of the description above is from Wiki)

It was a surprise Apple dropped support for MacBook Air 2017 model (but no wonder it is the last MacBook Air model using an easy to replace Apple Flash Storage Drive).

IV. Ventura and OpenCore Patcher

Unfortunately, there is no time soon OpenCore Patcher becomes capable of handling Ventura to run on unsupported Mac computers.

Please take a look at the following notes released by OpenCore Patcher team.

V. Conclusion

I am not holding my breath for how my unsupported 27 inch iMac late 2013 ( iMac 14.2) will become capable of running Ventura using the upcoming release of OpenCore Patcher.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see that within a few years as Apple releases a new macOS, none of the Intel Chip based Mac computers will run the new macOS.  Most likely, Apple will go their own way with their Silicon chip based Mac computers (M1 chip and now M2 chip) are the only ones capable of running new macOS.  If you want to keep up with Apple’s macOS updates – Apple says buy a new Mac computer – big sigh!
